Modernist. Poetic. Light

My design works are subconsciously influenced by my admiration for my grandfathers, one who was an Industrial Designer and contributed to the design of the iconic Citroen DS car, and the other who was an Electrician in the coal mines, and was bringing light into some of the darkest places on earth.

They are also reminiscent of the emotions created by the modernist architecture that surrounded my childhood, from my love-and-hate relationship with the raw concrete buildings of Le Corbusier in my hometown Firminy, France, to my fascination for the iconic bubble houses of the 1960s and 70s which I would see during my Summer holidays in Provence. I realised I intuitively design every one of my sculptures as a miniature home I would wish to live in.

South of France is a major inspiration in my creative work, not only for the incredibly rich ceramic tradition - Vallauris, Dieulefit, Saint-Quentin, Anduze - but also for its Douceur de vivre, and all the mythical Surrealist artists who were attracted to dream and create there such as Miro, Cocteau, Picasso.

The fusion of architecture and sculpture creates my palette of graphic shapes, which I like to see floating at the border between figurative and abstract, between reality and dreams.

I model my ‘luminescent sculptures’ and murals by hand, as a result of a creative exploration which starts with many preliminary sketches, using smooth stoneware, and glaze colours from South of France.
